According to Eastern Visayas DOT Director Karen Tiopes, the pristine and virginal condition of EVs natural environment made the DOT National Office decide to promote Samar and Leyte as primary Adventure destinations both for Domestic and Inbound Tourism. Samar was the venue of the famed 1999 International Elf Endurance competition, and earned for the province an international mark of being one of the toughest jungle terrain ever encountered by experienced international outdoor players.
